Troubleshooting · 6-step protocol
Roughly 95% of "broken device" reports our support team gets are fixed in under two minutes by one of the six checks below. Defective devices do happen, but they're rare — most of the time it's airflow debris, a dead battery, or an end-of-life device the user didn't realize was at its puff cap.
New Adjust Vape devices ship with a small silicone tab on the bottom that blocks the airflow channel during transit. It looks like a tiny black rubber plug, sometimes mistaken for a sticker. If the device won't pull on the first try, this is the most likely cause — flick it off with a fingernail.
If the device has been working and suddenly won't pull, you can skip this step. The plug is only relevant to first-pull-doesn't-work — after that you're back to whichever adjust vape flavors you've got in rotation.
Disposable devices sometimes arrive with the battery near depleted. The internal cell is shipped at storage charge (usually around 30%) which can drop during transit. If the LED doesn't light when you pull, plug it into any standard USB-C charger and wait 30 minutes before retrying.
You can vape while it's charging. If the device fires while plugged in, you've confirmed the battery was the issue. If it still doesn't fire on USB power, the problem is elsewhere — continue to Step 3.
USB-C ports are magnets for pocket lint, dust, and crumbs. If the device won't take a charge or doesn't fire when plugged in, look at the port with a phone flashlight. If you see fuzz, lint, or any visible debris, the charger isn't seating properly.
Clean the port carefully with a toothpick or a soft brush — never with a metal tool, which can damage the pins. Most "won't charge" reports are resolved here. If the port is clean and charging still fails, it's likely a deeper hardware issue.
Sometimes e-liquid settles in the wrong place inside the pod — typically around the airflow sensor — and prevents proper draw. Holding the device mouthpiece-up and tapping the bottom firmly against your palm 4-5 times redistributes the liquid.
This sounds folkloric but works often enough that it's in our standard protocol. Especially common after the device has been laying flat for a long time (in a glove box, drawer, etc.). After tapping, try a slow steady pull.
Adjust uses draw-activated firing with a sensitivity threshold. A draw too short or too gentle won't trip the sensor. A draw too sharp can flood the coil. The sweet spot is a 3-second slow pull, about the intensity of drinking through a thick straw.
If you've been pulling like you would on a sub-ohm tank (hard and fast), try the opposite — long and gentle. About 60% of "device won't fire" complaints we see are actually pull-technique issues. The LED should glow on a proper draw.
Devices that have been used heavily may be at or near their 40,000-puff cap. The firmware locks the coil at exactly 40K and the device stops firing entirely — no LED on draw, no response to charging beyond the battery indicator. This isn't a defect; it's the puff counter enforcing the rated lifespan.
How to tell: if you've owned the device for more than 3 weeks of typical use, end-of-life is plausible. If the device feels noticeably lighter than when you bought it (the 28 mL pod is mostly empty), that's confirming evidence. End-of-life devices need replacement, not repair.
