Adjust 40K Safety — Battery, Storage & Disposal
Adjust devices use lithium-ion batteries and pre-filled nicotine e-liquid. Both are safe in normal use; both have failure modes worth understanding before they happen. Read this page once and you've handled 95% of the risk surface.
Storage temperature — the biggest practical risk
Lithium-ion battery cells degrade fast above 95°F / 35°C and in high humidity. They also lose capacity below 32°F / 0°C, though cold damage is recoverable while heat damage isn't. Translated to real life: don't leave Adjust Vape devices in:
- A parked car in summer (interior hits 130°F+ even on mild days). Cabin heat kills both the battery and the e-liquid viscosity.
- A windowsill in direct sunlight. Less dramatic than a car but enough to bake the cell over a weekend.
- A bathroom that gets shower steam. Humidity penetrates the seal seam slowly; one shower is fine, daily steam over weeks isn't.
- A glove compartment in winter if you live in a cold-weather state. The device will work again once it warms up, but freezing the cell repeatedly shortens its life.
Climate-controlled storage at home (60°F–80°F, normal humidity) is fine indefinitely up to the device's 40,000-puff cap. Beyond temperature, just don't drop them on hard floors repeatedly — internal solder joints aren't drop-proof.
Charging safety
The internal battery management system protects against over-charge, under-voltage, and short circuit in normal conditions. Two scenarios push past those protections:
- Charging from a damaged USB-C cable. Frayed cables can deliver intermittent voltage that confuses the charging IC. Use a clean, undamaged cable — any standard USB-C will do.
- Charging on a flammable surface. Lithium fires are rare on small disposables but not zero-probability. Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface (kitchen counter, desk) rather than a bed, sofa, or pile of paper.
If a device gets noticeably hot during charging (uncomfortable to hold), unplug it immediately. That's the BMS's last-resort thermal warning — keep charging and the cell can swell. Email us with the order number and we'll replace it under warranty.
Disposal at end-of-life
When the device hits 40,000 puffs, the coil locks and the firmware shuts down further firing. The internal battery typically still has 10–20% charge at that point. Don't throw the unit in regular household trash — the lithium cell is technically e-waste and is illegal to landfill in several states.
Three legal disposal paths:
- Local vape shop drop-off. Most independent vape shops accept dead disposables for proper recycling. Some chains do too — ask before assuming.
- Municipal e-waste collection. Most U.S. cities have monthly or quarterly e-waste collection days. Disposables go in the same bin as old phone chargers and batteries.
- Manufacturer return program. We don't currently run a mail-back program (postage rules on lithium cells make it cost-prohibitive). When that changes, we'll add details to this page.
Nicotine warnings — required reading
Adjust devices contain 5% (50 mg/mL) salt nicotine. The U.S. federal warnings apply to every adult who uses this product. We list them here verbatim so you can make an informed choice before ordering:
- This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.
- Not for use by minors, pregnant or nursing women, or persons with or at risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or those who are sensitive to nicotine.
- Nicotine ingestion is poisonous in concentrated form. If a device leaks, wash skin contact areas with soap and water; if e-liquid is swallowed, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222 in the U.S.).
- Keep out of reach of children and pets. Even the residual liquid in a "spent" device can be dangerous to a small body weight.
- Vaping is not approved as a smoking-cessation product by the FDA. If you're trying to quit nicotine entirely, talk to a healthcare provider.
If you don't already use nicotine, this product is not intended for you.
Defective device — when to stop using and contact us
The cases where you should stop vaping a device immediately and email service@adjust-vape.com:
- Device becomes noticeably hot at rest (not just during draw) — possible internal short.
- Visible swelling of the device casing — battery cell expansion.
- Sweet liquid leaking from the mouthpiece or charging port — pod seal failure.
- Burning electrical smell during charging or vaping — never normal.
- Red LED flashing continuously without a pull — internal fault detected by BMS.
In all of these cases we replace under warranty, no questions about how the device was used. Safety reports also feed back to our QC team — knowing which batches have failure clusters lets us catch supplier issues before they reach more orders.
